Renesas Electronics Launches Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi/Bluetooth Combo Solutions for IoT and Smart Home Applications

December 10, 2025, Beijing, China – Renesas Electronics Corporation, a premier global supplier of semiconductor solutions, today announced the launch of the RAGW1, a dual-band Wi-Fi 6 wireless microcontroller (MCU), and the RAGW2, an MCU integrating Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) technology. These connectivity solutions aim to meet the growing demand for always-on, ultra-low-power IoT devices in smart home, industrial, medical, and consumer applications. Renesas is also introducing fully integrated modules with built-in antennas, wireless protocol stacks, and pre-validated RF connectivity to accelerate product development.

The new products leverage key Wi-Fi 6 features like Target Wake Time (TWT) to significantly extend sleep periods while maintaining an always-on connection, achieving ultra-low power consumption. In sleep mode, power consumption can be as low as 200nA to 4μA, and remains below 50μA even in Traffic Indication Message (DTIM) mode. This makes them suitable for applications such as environmental sensors, smart locks, surveillance cameras, and medical monitors that require long-term operation and real-time responsiveness.

Both MCUs are built around a 160 MHz Arm Cortex-M33 core, feature 704 KB SRAM, and support dual-band (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) operation. Technologies like Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) enhance network efficiency and stability. They can be flexibly paired with Renesas' RA family of MCUs to form scalable IoT solutions and are supported by the Renesas Flexible Software Package (FSP) and the e² studio integrated development environment.

Regarding security and interoperability, the products incorporate features such as AES-256 encryption, secure boot, and key storage. The RAGW1 has obtained Radio Equipment Directive (RED) certification and is also certified for the Matter 1.4 protocol, enabling cross-platform interoperability for smart home devices. Renesas commits to 15-year and 10-year longevity support for the MCUs and modules, respectively, ensuring long-term application stability.

These new wireless MCUs and modules are expected to further advance the overall energy efficiency, connectivity performance, and system security of IoT and smart home devices.
